Windows 7 | Unable to install | Error message: WeInitEngine() failed. WEERR_CreateFileW_FAILED

Microsoft has officially ended extended support for Windows 7 in January 2020.

As a result, many Windows 7 users may experience the following error when attempting to install WTFast´s latest version:

Windows 7 Error

WTFast Client Error

Since this version of Windows requires all drivers to be digitally signed and at the same time the old (non-updated) versions of Windows 7 do not support SHA-2 (aka SHA256) certificates for kernel driver:

Windows 7 Warning

The current solution is to install the following security update:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46148

If the previous link fails, you can download the security update here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/security-updates/SecurityAdvisories/2015/3033929?redirectedfrom=MSDN

Finally, you should be able to install WTFast without getting the error.

Note:

While we currently don´t have an estimated date, we will eventually stop supporting Windows 7 so it´s best if you upgrade your Windows OS to at least Windows 8x or +.
